No. I have not given up sugar – entirely. I did commit to not eat anything sugary after 7pm. At first I thought it would be a piece of cake (pun wasn’t intended, but I like it anyway) but it’s been more challenging than I first believed. Many fruits have natural sugars – does that wipe them out too? I decided to keep it reasonable. Many, many products that you would not consider sugary have sugar in them. I was hard pressed to find a salad dressing without sugar in it. Fructose is another word for sugar but it’s more natural (like the aforementioned fruits). Then you have corn syrup. What it does mean is no ice cream, cake or most other desserts. This will be good incentive for me to eat earlier in the day – which doctors typically recommend anyway.
Why did I quit sugar after 7pm? Well, I’m sure you’ve heard of the “sugar high” and the inevitable crash that comes after. I’ve had my eye on quitting sugar since I quit caffeine but I know if I try to do too many things at once, I’ll be setting myself up to fail. So, it is all in the interest of HAPPINESS. Eating sugar and drinking caffeine tend to impact my mood. So, I’m working on it.
By the way, I did falter in my efforts to stay caffeine free – but that’s another story for another day.
